December Pot Luck Dinner: [Photos available under "Photos," "Club Meetings 2014" on our website]. The Maryland Free-State Treasure Club annual pot luck dinner, or rather feast, was an epicurean delight with food that suited all tastes and moods with a wonderful centerpiece in the form of a delicious sheet cake brought in by Lara and Bill Wise, beautifully decorated with "Merry Christmas," our club name, a bespectacled Santa Clause holding a metal detector and bordered with golden rings - a truly magnificent cake. The only things missing were several bottles of vintage wine, table clothes and candlelight. Thank you to those who brought food. The balance of protein, vegetables and deserts was perfect.

Members' Only Competition Hunt: Our Members Only Competition Hunt was announced for Saturday May 2, 2015. We have made arrangements with the supervisor to have a no digging hunt on the grounds of the building where we conduct our meetings. We will be casting tokens and coins into the grass surrounding the whole building. It is advised that you practice a bit on your own grassy area. It's not as easy as you might think.

Find of the Year: Kurt Franz won Find of the Year with his Georgian/Victorian era Rebus wax seal pictogram fob. George Venker came in second with his 1873 Gold U.S. dollar. Both of these members work very hard for their treasures. The amount of treasure found is proportional to the number of holes you dig.
To view these finds, go to our webpage and click the "Photos" button. Then click "Members' Finds 2014." Kurt Franz photo of 11-08-14 and George Venker 10-04-14 will reveal these incredible finds.

XP Deus Metal Detector (or $1000 cash) Raffle Winner: This night we drew a winning ticket for the XP Deus or $1000 cash. After much rumbling around in the stub bag to mix up the entries, the one ticket was drawn - Mike Stinemire had the match and he took the cash as a year-end bonus. Thank you to Bob Taylor for initiating this raffle and selling to us the XP Deus detector at a reduced price. Our club brought in about $800 on the raffle and we still have the XP Deus detector to give away as a prize at our members' hunt May 2. The cash will also go into better and more numerous prizes for our members.

Membership Cards: Steve Cunningham announced the demise of the club membership cards do to lack of interest. There are too many unclaimed cards and who needs another card in their wallet, anyway?

Club Outing December 13: Despite a chilly start, the day became perfect for detecting: Sunny and cool. 11 members joined the hunt. It was slow going for finding anything of interest but the treasures soon started coming out of the ground: Bill Wise found a Haitian 1850 6 1/4 centimes, a large cent no date, a 1900 barber dime and some clad; Kurt Franz unearthed Musket ball, 1947 quarter, tiny foreign religious pendent, 2 clad bicentennial/drummer boy quarters, and a 1816-1839 matron head large cent; John Vice found a 1944 silver dime is great condition, clad, Fort McHenry token, old lead (Civil War?) stamping die with two pieces of type still intact; Andy Cooper found a Belgian 50F coin, 2 flat buttons, 1 button back and a couple dollars in clad; Leo Pollock found 2-wheats (1944&48), clad change, 1/2 horse shoe, some other iron relics, a possible gold earring and a lot of trash; Phil Kolocotronis found a large junk bracelet, clad quarter and three pennies.

Trash Drive: No tub this meeting. The collection tub will be present January 29.

New Club Coin: In an understated manner, our new club coin was distributed to those who attended this meeting.

Adjournment: The December 18 meeting was adjourned at 9:50 PM when members helped stow the folding chairs and tables.

Next meeting: Thursday, January 29 at 7:00 PM in the back two rooms beyond the auditorium and to the left.
