September 2013
MFSTC Newsletter
At 7:05 P.M. the September 24, 2013 meeting was called to order by the President, Gary Pennington. Organization officers, Howard Shettle, vice president, Steve Cunningham, treasurer, and our new secretary, Ms. Christine Wisnom was introduced. Christine will be replacing Mr. Alvin “Bud” Lamb, our previous secretary and newsletter administrator.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr. Alvin “Bud” Lamb for the tireless service, time and talent that he has contributed to our club as past secretary and newsletter administrator. We will continue to enjoy Bud’s company and contributions as an active member.
The treasurer’s report was provided by Steve Cunningham, who indicated that the club currently has $985.26 in the bank.
We welcome new members John Manzari, Dave Denkenberger, Ilario Pogliani, Frank Silva, Dave Miller, Rick Willard and Judy Falanga at our September meeting. Our guests were Daniel Mitchell and Mary Murray.
Treasure hunting is a multigenerational activity that can be enjoyed by almost anyone, at any age, and the diversity of our club is a perfect example. We welcome all family members.
The president read his report regarding the search for a new location for the monthly club meetings. The Church of the Ascension, located on Wilson Point Road, Middle River, MD., is only a few miles from our current location, and appears to be a good prospect. The meeting room is approximately double the size of the current location and will seat approximately 100 attendees. The church is surrounded by a large grassy area and has ample room for parking. Further details are currently being obtained regarding insurance.
The monthly 50/50 raffle drawing was a big success. A $49.00 cash prize was won by Austin Bialozynski.
Gary Pennington urged members to check out the valuable treasure hunting techniques on YouTube.
The annual club auction was held, and innumerable treasures were purchased by lucky club members. We would like to thank our lively and humorous auctioneer, Mr. Bob Darretta and his two young assistants Gina Stinemire and Austin Bialozynski for an effort that made our auction fun and memorable. We would also like to thank all the members for their donations. It takes teamwork to achieve success. We made $161 which was used to buy food and drinks for our September 28 Treasure Hunt.
The display board contest winners are:
Coins - 1st place - Gary Pennington, 2nd place - Judy Falanga, 3rd place - John Manzari.
Relics - Dave Denkenberger. There were no other entries for relics.
Club Favorite - Rick Pack

Our Treasure Hunt on September 28th at Gunpowder State Park, Hammerman area, was a beautiful day to get to know each other. In addition to the hot dogs, hamburgers, sodas and water provided by the M.F.S.T.C., several members brought food and desserts to share.
